Common Job Search Mistakes in the UAE (and How to Avoid Them)

If you are searching for a job in the UAE, then don't make the typical mistakes professionals make in their job search process:

  1. Sending the same CV to every job: One of the major mistakes you can make in your job search is using the same CV and not tailoring it for each different job description. This is because employers only spend seconds to see whether the CV aligns with job descriptions. If it doesn't, they don't spend another second on it. So, before you apply for a job, read the description carefully and craft a professional CV UAE. For this, highlight skills and experience that match the role and achievements that relate to the role.
  2. Not optimising your LinkedIn profile: LinkedIn is a major hiring platform in the UAE. Many professionals are ignored because their profile is not impressive and optimised. For example, if your profile photos, headline, or summary are missing from the profile or if you haven't turned on the open to work feature, then your chances of getting a job are less through LinkedIn. On LinkedIn, you must add a professional photo, write a strong headline, add achievements in each job and connect with recruiters.
  3. Not using local job portals: many professionals in Dubai only use LinkedIn and ignore UAE-specific job boards where companies frequently post openings, such as bayt.com, gulf talent, naukri gulf, etc. Therefore, you must use these portals too.
  4. Not including your visa status: in the UAE, visa status is an important hiring factor. Therefore, you must include your visa status clearly in the personal details section.
