Troubleshooting
Troubleshoot common issues with your camera, microphone, video, or audio.
Before you troubleshoot any specific issues:
- Try using Google Chrome.
- Make sure that your headphones are plugged in, your volume is turned up, and you're unmuted :)
- Try refreshing. Sometimes ohyay just needs a reset!
ā My camera and/or microphone aren't connected
- Open up your settings by clicking on the icon at the top right of your screen.
- Make sure your camera and microphone are set to your desired devices.
ā If your devices are not showing up:
-
Quit Zoom and all other video chat applications that might be using your camera and microphone. (Command-Tab on Mac will open up the App Switcher to see what apps are running).
-
Check that your browser has the right permissions. Here are some links for help:
- Ensure that your operating system allows your browser to access your camera and microphone.
- Windows:
- Mac OS:
š Nobody can see me
- Follow the camera and microphone steps above.
š Nobody can hear me
- Follow the camera and microphone steps above.
- Your microphone may be muted. Unmute your microphone.
ā If your microphone is still not working on Windows, you may need to set up your mic to work with Cortana before it works in Chrome. Follow these steps:
- Go to Windows settings.
- Search for Microphone Settings.
- Click the setup button in the Set Up Microphone for Voice Recognition section.
- Follow the prompt and select Cortana can't hear me.
Ensure that your microphone is both enabled and unmuted on Windows:
š I can't hear anyone
- If using headphones, make sure that they're connected to your computer.
- Click on the icon at the top right of your screen. Make sure that your media volume is turned up and that the right speakers are selected.
š I can't see anyone
First, make sure you are in a room that is supposed to be displaying other users. In ohyay, some rooms do not display other people's video.
If you're sure there is supposed to be video displayed and you do not see it, try the following:
- Click on the Play link if you see a warning about audio/video being blocked by your browser.
- Refresh the browser tab.
- Make sure your firewall isn't blocking requests to ohyay.co or any of its subdomains.
Other troubleshooting steps:
- Firefox: Ensure that H264 support is enabled.
- Chrome: Try running in Incognito mode. Sometimes extensions will interfere with video chat.
- Ad Blockers: Some ad-blockers restrict WebRTC traffic. Try adjusting their settings or disabling them entirely.
uBlock Origin, for example, has an option to hide your local IP, which makes WebRTC traffic impossible in certain network situations.
